The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutrition education program for growing families!

You may qualify if you:​
  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby in the past 6 months (or pregnancy loss); or
  • Have a child or children up to 5 years of age including those cared for by mom, dad, a grandparent, foster parent, step-parent or guardian; and
  • Families with low-to-medium income or who receive Medi-Cal, CalWORKs or CalFresh benefits; and
  • Live in California

Newly pregnant people, working families, including military and migrant families, are encouraged to apply!

Recall Alert for Raw Cheddar Cheese

This message is for informational purposes only and is not a WIC product recall.

FDA Recall Announcement: The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak ofE. coli infections linked to all raw block and shredded cheddar cheeses sold by Raw Farm, LLC. Over half of the illnesses are in children under the age of 5.

Health Impacts: Symptoms of E. coli can begin anywhere from a few days after consuming contaminated food or up to nine days later. Symptoms include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting.

The severity or presence of certain symptoms may depend on the type of pathogenic E. coli causing the infection. Some infections can cause severe bloody diarrhea and lead to life-threatening conditions, such as a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), or the development of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems.

Products on APL: Raw Cheddar Cheese is NOT a WIC authorized food​ and CANNOT be purchased with WIC benefits. All WIC authorized milk and cheese products are pasteurized.

Action: Families are advised to not eat any affected cheese while this investigation is ongoing. Any items and surfaces that have touched affected cheese should be washed.
