Steve Hofbauer is your elected representative on the Board of Directors of your regional public Health Care District which operates your Antelope Valley Hospital. He has served as the board Treasurer and a Vice-Chair, and on the Finance, Retirement Fund, HR, and Quality Assurance committees. He represents the hospital at the statewide Association of California Health Care Districts and the Legislative Advocacy Committee in Sacramento. He has an extensive public policy background with over 30 years in elected and appointed public service, including Planning Commissioner/Chairman, City Councilman and elected Mayor.
Mr. Hofbauer is retired LAFD Inspector II/Paramedic, a Nationally Registered EMT, and has certification and training as a Wilderness EMT, Wilderness First Responder, and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care. He is a licensed instructional and skills center provider for most Red Cross and ECSI programs for basic and wilderness first aid, assists with Sheriff academy and station first aid training, and is a Scouting Merit Badge Counselor. Steve ran a life safety and construction project consulting firm for several years after retiring from the fire department.
Currently, in addition to emergency training services, Steve works contract medical for special events, high profile and media productions. Steve also serves as Scout resident camp and event Health Officer, and volunteers as a Fire Tower Lookout on the remote San Bernardino and Angeles National Forests. He is a Los Angeles Sheriff Department Search and Rescue logistics specialist managing team rescue apparatus and equipment, and a Command Post Operator for the Palmdale station.
During his career Steve has served a variety of challenging field assignments including ground and air rescue, acting Paramedic Supervisor, Crew Chief, Paramedic Preceptor/Training Officer, EMT Instructor, Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and on-site Incident Management Team (IMT) member, Safety Offer, LA County and US Public Health Service National Medical Response Team GS-9 medical team leader, and as a Damage Assessment Team Leader with the state Office of Emergency Services.
These positions resulted in deployments to many historically significant incidents, including rescues at the '94 Northridge Earthquake, Public Health deployments to the Oklahoma Bomber trial and '84 Olympics, crash rescue at Long Beach Grand Prix, an OES team leader at wildfires, and most recently to Palisades and Eaton fires with Search and Rescue.
Steve is a recipient of a number of prestigious recognitions, including a Lifetime Public Service Award as an elected official, LA County Fire Department Valor Award for heroism, twice selected as Paramedic of the Year, a recipient of the LAFD Fire Marshal's Inspection Bureau Outstanding Achievement Award, the Sheriff's Department Community Protector Award by Sheriff Sherman Block for action during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, and Unit Commander Commendation for actions at a successful mountain rescue operation for a lost child.
