Pediatric Care in Lancaster, CA

Antelope Valley Medical Center is Home to the Region’s Only Pediatrics Unit

When your child needs medical care, you want the best treatment close to home. Antelope Valley Medical Center operates the only dedicated pediatric unit in the Antelope Valley region, providing specialized care designed specifically for infants, children, and adolescents, ranging from birth to 21 years of age.

Our team understands that children are not simply small adults—they require age-appropriate medical expertise, child-friendly environments, and compassionate support for the whole family.

Specialized Pediatric Hospital Care 24/7

Our 22-bed pediatric unit creates a healing environment where children feel safe and families feel supported. The unit features a dedicated parent lounge and pediatric playroom, ensuring comfort during your child's stay. We maintain a treatment area separate from patient rooms, allowing your child's room to remain a safe zone where they can rest and recuperate without fear or anxiety.

Specially trained pediatric nurses provide round-the-clock care tailored to each child's developmental stage and medical needs. Our local pediatricians work closely with pediatric hospitalists who are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, ensuring expert medical attention whenever your child needs it. This collaborative approach means your child receives coordinated, comprehensive care from admission through discharge.

Child Life Services and Family Support

Our pediatric team includes a certified child life specialist who is focused in addressing children's emotional well-being during hospitalization. Using age-appropriate techniques, our child life specialist helps ease fears and anxiety through:

  • Play Therapy: Therapeutic activities that help children process their hospital experience.
  • Creative Expression: Art, music, and storytelling to promote healing and comfort.
  • Medical Preparation: Age-appropriate explanations of procedures to reduce fear.
  • Family Education: Support and resources for parents and siblings.
  • Lactation Support: Certified lactation education for breastfeeding mothers.

These services recognize that healing involves more than medical treatment—it requires addressing the psychological and emotional needs of both children and their families.

Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP)

AVMC is the only hospital in the Antelope Valley area approved by the County of Los Angeles as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP). This designation confirms our readiness to treat infants, children, and adolescents with serious illnesses or injuries at any time. Our emergency physicians and nurses have specialized training in pediatric emergency medicine and utilize equipment specifically designed for children's unique anatomical and physiological needs.

Whether your child experiences a sudden illness, injury, or medical emergency, our EDAP-certified team provides immediate, expert care without the need to travel outside the region.
