Nursing Internships

Antelope Valley Medical Center is pleased to announce the creation of a new Student Nurse Intern Program.

This paid internship program will enable students in their final semester of nursing school to have a combined working and learning experience in a rigorous healthcare environment. Interns selected for the program will receive clinical experiences such as:

  • Under close to general supervision, working alongside providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide support services directly related to patient care
  • Assisting with direct patient care under the supervision of the RN or other medical professionals
  • Collecting patient histories and vital signs, collects and performs routine tests on blood and other specimens, and assists with simple procedures
  • Dressing changes, wound and incisions care
  • Assisting in minor surgical procedures and suture removal
  • Observing and assisting is various clinical and non-clinical areas:
    • Wound Care
    • Dietary
    • Infusion Clinic
    • Physical/Occupational Therapy
    • Nursing Administration
    • Rapid Response Team
    • Cath Lab
  • Assists with a wide range of medical interventions such as:
    • Respiratory therapy treatments
    • Chest tubes
    • Care of patient with PCA
    • Management of epidural
    • Skin wound management
    • Airway management
    • Advanced hemodynamic monitoring

Interns will be required to provide 1-day per week of availability for an 8 to 12-hour work day. This is not an extension of 4th semester clinicals. We hope to provide the interns with learning and experience in healthcare operations that extend beyond the scope of nursing students and new-graduate nurse. Interns will have an opportunity to apply for a permanent nursing position at the conclusion of the program
