(LANCASTER, Calif., May 27, 2026) — After a devastating car accident, 17-year-old Vanessa Rodriguez arrived at Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC), with lifethreatening injuries including multiple fractures, spinal trauma, and a brain injury. Her survival was uncertain. What followed was a relentless, coordinated effort by AVMC’s Trauma and Intensive Care teams, working around the clock to save her life.
Vanessa spent nearly three months hospitalized, including weeks in the ICU. At her bedside was her mother, Jenny, who witnessed not only advanced clinical care, but extraordinary compassion. “Recibió mucho cuidado. Siempre la atendían cuando los llamaban. Todos eran muy amables,” Jenny shared. (Trans: She received so much care. They always attended to her when we called. Everyone was very kind.)
After weeks unconscious, Vanessa woke to a new reality—one that included the possibility she might never walk again. But her journey didn’t end there. Through continued rehabilitation, she is now regaining movement and taking assisted steps. “El proceso es largo y lento. Aún se está recuperando,” her mother said.
