The type of treatment patients get depends on their cancer type, stage,
overall health, and many other factors. Our highly skilled, board-certified
Antelope Valley Medical Center oncologists use only the latest treatment
options, which may include a combination of tumor removal surgery, radiation
therapy, and chemotherapy, among others.
State-of-the-Art Cancer Treatment Options
Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery
Minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures and robotic surgery allow the
surgeon to use innovative scopes and other imaging tools to view and operate
through much smaller incisions. As a result, most patients experience
shorter hospital stays, less post-operative pain, and faster recovery
times than traditional surgeries.
Bronchoscopy
We have invested in life-enhancing technology and better cancer care solutions,
so our patients have access to quality care. That’s why we offer
a minimally invasive robotic-assisted bronchoscopy procedure.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths. However, when diagnosed
at the earliest stage, known as stage IA-1, the average 5-year survival
rate is 92%. Early-stage diagnosis can be difficult, but the Ion endoluminal
system may help obtain tissue samples that facilitate a diagnosis.
Ion is a robotic-assisted platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the
lung. Ion enables physicians to obtain tissue samples from deep within
the lung, addressing a challenging aspect of lung biopsy. It may also
help patients avoid subsequent biopsies by helping enable a diagnosis
through the samples obtained.
Our investment in Ion complements our robotic-assisted surgical program,
enabling patients to receive all care—from biopsy to surgery—at
our hospital.
Parenteral Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biotherapy are delivered on 4-Tower by
oncology nurses who have obtained competence by passing the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy
Immunotherapy Provider Course and have had hands-on training.
Radiofrequency Ablation
Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses electrical
energy and heat to destroy cancer cells. With this treatment, high-frequency
energy is delivered through a thin needle, causing the surrounding tissue
to heat up and kill nearby cancer cells.
Chemoembolization
Chemoembolization delivers chemotherapy drugs directly to a tumor while
minimizing exposure to healthy tissues. Chemoembolization may be used
as a standalone treatment or in combination with surgery, chemotherapy,
radiation therapy, or radiofrequency ablation.
Our oncology team works with patients and their families to offer support
