Antelope Valley Medical Center Walk-A-Mile Event a Success

  • Posted On:

(LANCASTER, CA – October 7, 2015) — More than 120 people attended the second annual Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes event on Saturday, September 26, at Antelope Valley College, aimed at raising awareness of services available in our community to prevent violence and help victims of crime.

The event was sponsored by the Zonta Club of the Antelope Valley in support of Antelope Valley Medical Center’s Forensic Services Unit. Attendees had the unique opportunity to see most of the men who participated wearing heels, in a nod to the name of the event and to emphasize the need to stop gender based violence. In addition to the 60 walkers who completed the mile, multiple community agencies staffed booths to provide information and resources. Several local businesses also supported the event, including Antelope Valley Lincoln, Ford, Mazda; Secure Digital Imaging (SDFI); and the Antelope Valley Community Clinic.

Participants collectively raised over $3,000; but more importantly, the event helped raise awareness about ending violence in our community.
