Wound Care Center Adds Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

  • Posted On:

The Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) Comprehensive Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center celebrated a grand re-opening last night. Its new name – Comprehensive Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center – reflects the latest addition to its suite of wound-care treatment options: hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. The center also moved to a new, updated location in the AVMC Community Resource Center building at 44151 15th Street West, Suite 211.

The addition of hyperbaric oxygen therapy means local residents will have access to the most advanced treatment for chronic wounds right here in Lancaster. HBO therapy is a treatment in which the patient breathes 100 percent pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. The increased air pressure inside the chamber helps transport more oxygen through the blood to organs and connective tissues, which promotes wound healing. AV Hospital has two HBO chambers available at the updated center.

"There is a tremendous need for wound care, and we want to ensure local residents have convenient and prompt access to the most effective forms of treatment," said Dr. Jones Hormozi, medical director of the center. "Our multi-disciplinary approach at AV Hospital leads to the most successful outcomes, which can mean avoiding amputation for some patients and getting back to a more active lifestyle for many."

The Comprehensive Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine Center is an outpatient facility offering an individualized approach for patients with non-healing wounds. Patients are examined by a multidisciplinary staff trained in wound care and evaluated for all possible physical conditions, such as diabetes, that could interfere with proper healing. The care team follows evidence-based clinical pathways to determine why wounds are not healing and then develops individual treatment plans, utilizing the most effective technologies available to provide maximum healing and relief.
